Sizzle Index

A single score for how hot a name's options volume is versus its normal day.

The Sizzle Index scores how active a symbol's options are today compared with its own typical baseline. A high sizzle reading means options volume is running hot relative to normal — a fast way to rank which names across 280+ symbols are attracting unusual attention right now.

What is the Sizzle Index?

Raw volume is misleading because a mega-cap always trades more contracts than a small name. The Sizzle Index normalizes for that: it compares today's options activity to each symbol's own historical norm, so a small name lighting up scores as high as a giant.

That makes it a clean leaderboard of relative heat. Sort by sizzle and the names genuinely heating up rise to the top, regardless of their absolute size.

It's powered by the same live institutional feed as our flow and UOA scanners, so the rankings reflect real, current activity.

How to read it

  • Sizzle score: How far today's options activity is above the symbol's normal baseline. Higher = hotter relative to its usual self.
  • Ranking: Sort the universe by sizzle to see which names are unusually active right now.
  • Pair with direction: A hot sizzle plus call-heavy flow reads differently than hot sizzle with put-heavy flow.
  • Baseline-aware: Because it's relative to each name's norm, small caps and mega caps are compared fairly.

Use cases

  • Find today's movers early: Surface names heating up before they're obvious on a price screen.
  • Build a focus list: Top sizzle names make a natural shortlist to dig into with flow and UOA.
  • Filter the universe: Cut 280+ symbols down to the handful actually doing something unusual today.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Sizzle Index measure?

How active a symbol's options are today relative to its own historical baseline — a normalized 'heat' score, not raw volume.

Why normalize instead of using raw volume?

Raw volume just ranks the biggest names every day. Normalizing reveals which names are unusual for themselves, which is the more useful signal.

How is it different from unusual options activity?

Sizzle is a symbol-level heat ranking; UOA drills into the specific contracts driving that heat. They work well together.

Is the data live?

Yes — it's built on the same live institutional feed as the rest of the flow tools.
